Application Programing Interface (API) is a set of routines, protocols and tools for building software applications. An API is a software-to-software interface. APIs allow applications to communicate with each other without the end user even realizing that there were separate applications communicating. The end user only sees the one interface and doesn’t even know when one application sends information to another application.

A good temperature monitoring system is vital to any school foodservice department. The most important temperatures to monitor include walk-in coolers/freezers, reach-in refrigerators/freezers, milk coolers, holding units, and final rinse temperatures of dish machines. Additionally, food temperature data must be monitored: from receiving, to storage, to holding temperatures, to cooking temperatures.

With flu season among us, the storage and handling of vaccines is a very important subject. Mishandling of vaccines by storing them outside the CDC recommended temperature ranges can reduce the potency of the vaccine, and potentially not provide adequate protection against the disease.

Laboratory conditions call for very precise temperatures. For this reason, a finely tuned temperature monitoring system is one of the most important tools for a lab. A failure at a lab can often mean that life-saving vaccines get compromised or years of research get destroyed. Unlike other industries, you can’t often put a price-tag on a failure at a lab.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is one of the oldest physical science laboratories in the nation. It was established in 1901 and is now part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NIST is responsible for developing and maintaining many standards, including the U.S. national standards for temperature. They have designed a system of calibrating thermometers and temperature probes, so that they are “traceable” back to NIST.

With so many different requirements that must be followed with regards to temperature monitoring, including HACCP requirements, The Joint Commission, and AABB, people are investing in automated temperature monitoring systems. Done are the days of manually taking temperature readings, writing the results on a piece of paper, and filing that paper away in a filing cabinet for years. Today, there are systems that allow you to monitor your entire operation at any time and from anywhere in the world.
